If I am a college student, can I be eligible for Food Stamps?

If you are a student between 18 and 49 and are attending a school other than high school, or on-the-job training programs, at least half-time, you will not get Food Stamps unless you can show that you are:

1. working at least 20 hours per week for at least minimum wage;

2. participating in a state or federally funded work-study program during the school year;

3. disabled;

4. taking care of someone in your household who is under 6 or not able to care for herself;

5. taking care of someone between the ages of 6-11 where adequate child care is not available;

6. a full-time student and are a single parent taking care of a child under age 12 (regardless of whether adequate child care is available;

7. getting Family Assistance (FA) benefits;

8. attending school under the Jobs Training Partnership Act (JTPA).

What if I meet one of the requirements and I am still denied?

If you are denied, call our office and we will review the decision with you. If it appears to be wrong, we will provide you with information on how to challenge it, or we may agree to take your case.
