Where can I go for assistance in paying back rent?

        There are several agencies that help pay back rent. Their phone numbers and addresses are as follows:

1. Erie County Department of Social Services

        The Emergency Housing Unit is on the first floor. Bring your court papers and information about your income with you. Persons not receiving public assistance or SSI may have to sign a repayment agreement.

2. AIDS Community Services

        Provides emergency rental assistance for persons who have HIV+ status or AIDS.

3. Community Action Organization of Erie County (CAO)

        Provides an emergency rental assistance loan to prevent eviction. Applicants may be requested to provide a pay or quit notice from the landlord or court papers.

4. Salvation Army

        Provides emergency rental assistance loan to prevent eviction. Applicants may be required to provide court papers.

5. Local churches and Parishes

        Your local church may have funds available to assist individuals or families in need.
