CAN MY LANDLORD/MANAGER CHANGE THE TERMS OF MY LEASE?

This depends on your lease. Because you live in public/subsidized ("Section 8") housing, federal regulations must be followed before your lease is changed.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I RECEIVE A NOTICE ABOUT A CHANGE IN MY LEASE?

1. Review your lease.

2. Talk informally to your landlord/manager about the changes.

3. Pay your rent while you attempt to resolve the matter.

4. Request a formal/informal hearing with your landlord/manager to attempt to resolve the matter.

WHAT IF MY LANDLORD/MANAGER STILL WANTS TO CHANGE MY LEASE AFTER I HAVE TAKEN THESE STEPS?

You may be able to request a hearing in an attempt to resolve the matter. For information on how to request a hearing, you may contact the Housing Unit of Neighborhood Legal Services, Inc. at 847-0650. We will review your case to see if we can represent you. The Housing Unit accepts a limited number of calls each day, Monday through Friday between the hours of 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
