DESCRIPTION OF THE NATIONAL AT ADVOCACY PROJECT
The Project receives its funding through the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research, U.S. Department of Education. This project primarily directs its nationwide support services to the network of Protection and Advocacy (P&A) and Client Assistance Program attorneys and advocates who are working on AT advocacy issues. We will also provide support services to Legal Services and Legal Aid programs and to attorneys in the private bar if they are working on AT-related issues.
The services of the National AT Advocacy Project are best described in our July 1996 issue of AT Advocate. As described in that newsletter, our work falls into several main categories:
" serving as a clearinghouse for information and documents that will support the work of AT advocates AT Resource Library Digest
" providing technical assistance to callers from P&A, CAP, Legal Services/Legal Aid offices and the private bar
" publishing a newsletter, the AT Advocate, to inform readers about the funding criteria which governs programs like Medicaid and special education and to inform readers about developments (e.g., statutory, policy, case law & administrative decisions)
" delivering training and organizing training events to fine tune and upgrade the skills of AT advocates
